On top of Concordia College and Minnesota State University - Moorhead, two other schools that anticipate nearby flooding—North Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota-Crookston—have canceled class so that students and faculty can assist in sandbagging efforts along the Red and Red Lake rivers.

The towns of Moorhead, Minn., and Fargo (where NDSU is located) expect the Red to crest by late Thursday or early Friday, and Crookston, about 70 miles away, the Red Lake to crest by Friday. City officials have ordered a voluntary evacuation of low-lying areas in Crookston, and those evacuees have been offered shelter at the University of Minnesota-Crookston campus.

Meanwhile students from other North Dakota and Minnesota campuses have driven into flood-affected areas to aid in sandbagging. The University of Minnesota-Morris volleyball team and a dozen other students have gone to Breckenridge, Minn., and Fargo, more than 100 miles away. Additionally, at least 50 University of North Dakota students skipped class, with the blessing of school officials, to head to Fargo to help. Said one UND student, “We wanted to help out our neighbors to the south so hopefully they’ll return the favor when the water comes up to Grand Forks.”

Ulu cami

these pictures are taken by Dick Osseman. He said
“I took so pictures of and at the Ulku Camii in Adana that I decided to put them in a separate gallery. The Ulu Camii or Great Mosque has, to my great delight, been restored, and the job was done very well. The building – or rather the complex of mosque, Koran school, mausoleum and a ders-hane (where reading of the Koran was taught) - was founded in 1507 by Halil, a prince of the Ramazan Oðlu family. I was shown around the mosque and Medrese by the keeper, who not only opened some extra doors and windows, but also led me up the minaret. The style is in a Syrian tradition, but is mingled with Selçuk elements.

A first set dates from 2005, another from a year later. ”

Adana

Situated in the middle of the Cukurova Plain (Cilician Plain), Adana is the fourth largest city of Turkey, nestled in the most fertile agricultural area of the whole country which is fed by the life-giving waters of the Seyhan river.

The city’s name originates in mythology, where it was said to have been founded by Adanus, the son of Cronus (God of Weather, Zeus‘ father).

Due to its being in the heart of that fertile center Adana has been an important city for many civilizations for centuries dating back to the Hittites. The precious River Seyhan is spanned by the ancient Taskopru (Stone Bridge) which was built by Hadrian and then repaired by Justinian. It is worth noting that to built a 300 yards long stone bridge in Roman times was a real feat.

In the city, the 16th century Great Mosque (Ulu Camii), the Yag or Eski Mosque, the Hasan Aga Mosque, Saat Kulesi (the clock-tower) built in 1882, an old covered bazaar, Bedesten or Arasta are of interest. You can also see the Ethnographical Museum where Turkish carpets, swords, manuscript books and tombstones are exhibited. The building itself is interesting as well since it was built as a church by the Crusaders. The Adana Archaeological Museum merits visiting too. Adana is also famous for its delicious Adana Kebap and other meat dishes.

The tea houses and restaurants alongside the Seyhan Dam and Lake provide a cool and perfect view of the city and the river at sunsets.

Yumurtalik (84 kilometers from Adana) and Karatas (50 kilometers from Adana) are the nearest beaches with proper accommodation. In Yumurtalik there is an ancient harbor castle contributing much to this pretty fishing city. For fishing, there is Camlik Park 30 kilometers southwest of Adana.

There are some ancient cities on the road to Iskenderun which include Roman remnants. Misis is on the caravan route that came from China, India and Persia. Among the remains of Roman times, the most interesting is the elegant mosaic of the 4th century A.D. representing Noah’s Ark. Yilanlikale has the ruins of a fortress set atop a peak dominating the River Ceyhan. Dilekkaya, the ancient Anavarza, was an important Roman Byzantine city which still preserves the outline of the old city including two particularly worthwhile mosaics. Karatepe National Park is the neoHittite site where you will find the remains of the summer residence of King Asitawada, tablets of Hittite and Phoenician inscriptions, and an open air museum holding many remnants. Castabala and Toprakkale are the other historical remains.

Karsan Forest, Burucek, Tekir, Horzum, Zorkum meadows are ideal for picnicking and resting.

My favorite room in house is the kitchen. I love kitchen because they are the place where the family gathers and where food is prepared, and I have very happy memories of the kitchen.

In my family, we have always had to custom of gathering in the kitchen. When my brother and I come home from school,  we go straight to the kitchen for a snack. We usually do our homework at the kitchen table. Often, we are still there when my parents come from work. Then we might help them to prepare food . A lot of our time together is spent in the kitchen. When relatives come to visit, they also spend time in the kitchen. We usually all end up there, drinking tea while we talk

I like eating, I enjoy cooking too, so of course I like kitchen. I especially love holiday when I spend all day in the kitchen with my cousins preparing special holiday food. The cooking is fun and sharing the work is even more fun. Sometimes our meal turn out well and other times not so well, but the fun of preparation is the most important part

I have a many happy memories of kitchen. I remember visiting my grandfather when I was small. Following  family custom, those visit usually took place in the kitchen. I watched my grandmother cook and listened to my grandfather  and my mother talk. I learn a lot about cooking and a lot about life.

For me, many happy things happen and have happened in the kitchens. When  I have   my own house, I will be sure that the kitchen is the biggest and most beautiful room in it

It is important to have a good roommate. A good roommate can become your best friend, but a bad roommate can be your worst enemy. A GOOD ROOMMATE IS CONSIDERATE, flexible, and fun

A good roommate is considerate of your needs. He does not make noise when you want to sleep or study. He does not plan a party or use your things without asking. A good roommate does not think only about itself, he thinks about you, too

A good roommate is flexible. He can adjust your habits. If you are neat and your roommate is messy, for example, you each try to change a little bit. Your roommate tries to be a little neater and you try to live with a little mess.

Finally, a good roommate is fun. I f he knows about   a party or a concert, he invites you to go with him. He introduces you to his friends. You plan some free time activities together. A good roommate may be serious about his studies, but he knows that it is important to have fun, too.

It is great to have roommate who can be you friend, too. I f your roommate is considerate, flexible, and fun, you are sure to get along well together.

work in a large company or small company

In my opinion, I prefer to work in a large company rather than a small one. A large company has to offer in terms advancement, training, and prestige.

In a large company, I can start at an entry-level position and work my way up to the top. I can start in the mailroom and, once I know the company, I can apply for a managerial position. In a small company, there would not be as much room to grow.

In a large company, there is the opportunity to learn a variety of jobs. I could work in sales, in shipping, or in any department I applied for. I could be trained in a variety of positions and would have valuable experience. In a small company, there would not be the same opportunity.

In a large company, there would be more prestige. I could brag to my friend that I worked for one of the biggest companies in the world. I would always have something to talk about when I met strangers. If I worked for a small company, I would always have to explain what the company did.

Working in a small company would not give me the same opportunities for advancement or training as working for a larger company would. Nor would I be as proud to work for a small company-unless the small company was my own.

travel

Traveling alone is the only way to travel. If you take someone with you, you take you home with you . When you travel alone, you meet new people , have new experiences, and learn more about yourself.

When I travel with a friend, I spend all my time with that friend. We do everything together. When I travel alone, I spend my time looking for new friends. I meet other tourists or local people. We have coffee together or share a meal and we become friends. It is easier to meet new people when I travel alone.

When I travel with a friend, my routine is predictable. We follow the same schedule that we do at home. When I travel alone, I adopt myself to the customs of place. I might take a nap in the afternoon and eat dinner late at night. I might go to club and dance all night. I am more open to new experience when I travel alone.

When I travel with friend, we take care of each other. When I am alone, I have to take care of myself. If I encounter a difficult situation, I have to find own solution. Maybe I do not speak language and I have figure out how to make myself understood. Maybe the food look strange and I have to decide what to eat. When I travel alone, I learn about how I react in new or strange situations.

I think it is important to do things on your own. You can find new friends, have new experience, and learn a lot about yourself, too. Is not that the point of travel?
